And so, after several years of doggedly annoying Mr. P.W. Long and persisting in pestering him throughout his self-imposed exile and his attempts at legitimizing himself through education and employment, Southern finally won the war of attrition and have been rewarded with seven and a half minutes of music by a trio of mismatched, cynical and suspicious musicians calling themselves Young James Long.

Along with Mr. P.W. Long, we have the venerable Mr. Kirkland James, legendary in North America for his work in Tenderloin (and also dragged out of the education system for our nefarious pursuits), and Mr. Taylor Young, who as we understand it still has a bit of youthful optimism about him, and has done his best to avoid the education system by joining up to the Polyphonic Spree and Young Heart Attack. Together these three musicians have distilled their craft down to its most primal and lethal elements, which is to say none of the songs are longer than 2 minutes. Luckily here at Southern we generally agree that if you can't make your point in 2 minutes, it's not worth making anyhow. What exactly Young James Long's point is, we're not quite sure, as Mr. Long insists in yelping and hollering in his trademark mumble and slur technique, but we think it has something do with needing to cross a river and not being able to swim.

Quite an appropriate metaphor for our times, we say.
